I reated this very simple blog in just about half an hour to give you an idea of waht can be done. I'm sure you can come up with better ideas and designs.
I have included a few examples of gadgets/widgets in the sidebar for you to have an idea. Just have a look in the Design tab, and browse around, there many different things you may want to include.
